Tropical Storm Barry, Weather »

[2 Jun 2007 | Comments Off | 84 views]

A little flooding this afternoon from Tropical Storm Barry. This was just before high tide, which is coming up in a few moments.

In other news, we found this guy in cuffs in front of our neighbors house… Whatever that is about…

Supposedly he had sped through once and was told to slow down and failed to do so. On his second trip back, he did it again so they chased him down in their off road vehicle…

You know it’s sad when you get stopped by a dump truck. He allegedly threw …

Now this is pretty slick (via newsvine):
With Typhoon Kaemi roaring toward China’s crowded southeast, Dr. Yang was sealing his apartment windows against the pounding rain when his cell phone buzzed to life.
“Typhoon forecast to make land this evening,” said the message sent to millions of mobile phones in the coastal city of Jinjiang and surrounding Fujian province. “Please attend to preparations.”
Once the domain of gossipy teenagers, text messages have become a key tool for Chinese authorities during this year’s unusually powerful typhoon season.
Nearly one-third of China’s 1.3 billion people has …

Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans »

[12 Sep 2005 | 2 Comments | 309 views]

So, caught this little gem from NewsMax. According to US Senator Mary L. Landrieu (D-La.), the incompetence of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (D), and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco (D) rests solely on the Bush administrations hatred toward mass transit.
Yeah, that makes sense…
It was the Bush administration’s fault that hundreds of city school buses weren’t dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.
Asked on “Fox News Sunday” why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to …

Took these pictures at Pass-A-Grille tonight, the lights from the parking lot washed them a little but they are still cool.

Some of the wildest cloud formations I’ve ever set eyes on. Jorn Oleson’s Gallery has some spectacular pictures of these Mammatus cloud formations.

I lied… Went out to survey downtown Saint Petersburg and found some heavy damage at the Vinoy Club. I’m told that a Hatteras sunk as a result of injuries sustained when major parts of their floating dock broke free. The boat is currently being hauled out for repairs, might try to get pictures of it tomorrow.
The pictures were taken at 8:30PM or there abouts.

The Vinoy docks are toast…

Dead grouper, woulda’ made a nice catch.

Hurricane Dennis, Red Tide »

[10 Jul 2005 | Comments Off | 136 views]

Well, probably my final Dennis entry. It’s high tide and the water has almost completely receded. A final picture to compare to, I expect the streets to be dry by around 6:30PM even though the next low tide isn’t until 12:13AM (read midnight) tomorrow morning.
I’m wondering what kind of effect Dennis might have on all fish kills from the red tide we’ve been having lately and on the red tide itself. Hopefully he’ll pull all of the nastiness out of the bay.

And stay out!!! High tide and the water is …

So, it’s 1:12PM about 3 1/2 hours before high tide and the flood waters have started to recede. Looks like no water in the house this time. We’ll see what the 4:35 high tide has in store for us.

Water level at 1:20PM

So Dennis has passed us by, but not after splashing us with a really large puddle… What a jerk…
In any case, let the Shore Acres Flood begin! At about 6:00AM the wife noticed we were getting water in the streets, high tide was at 6:36AM, so that should be good news… However, it’s 12:28PM right now and even though low tide was at 10:21AM the water continues to rise.
This is caused, most likely, by the winds from Dennis pushing water into the bay and subsequently up the storm drains into …
