If you’ve been to Google today you’ve probably noticed the Google Moon logo on the front page. Google has created a moon based version of Google Maps aptly named “Google Moon“. You can check out where the Apollo missions landed and who knows what else. Images are not that high resolution, but hey it’s free. What’s next, Google Uranus?

The Register is reporting that Dell is shutting down it’s Community Forum. This should come as no surprise, as a quick search on Google will reveal the seemingly never ending string of complaints on the Dimension 4600 power supply.
Part of the problem seems to have stemmed from Jeff Jarvis, a columnist on the San Francisco Examiner, who summed up his anger in a letter to a Dell VP, saying: “This machine is a lemon. Your at-home and complete care service is a fraud. Your customer service is appalling. Your …

Probably the coolest homebuilt server rack ever! Styled more like an audio rack, totally home built and professional looking. Material cost is way cheaper than you could ever buy this stuff commercially, even second hand.
I have to have one! I’m sure I’ll have a project page up in the next few weeks of my rack.

BBC NEWS is reporting a complete PC powered entirelly by PoE.
The company, DSP Design, makes embeded and single board computers and has produced the first, that I’m aware of, fully integrated PC that operates solely on PoE.
The POET6000 sports a Fanless Geode processor, 6.4″ TFT display with Resistive touch screen, and Windows XP embedded on flash.
This is obviously not for power users, meant mostly for point of sale, shop floor automation, and kiosk use.
This could also be good for client-server applications, where all is needed on the desk is …

The Register is reporting that a tax being proposed by the Stichting Thuiskopie foundation is set to become law in the Netherlands. The tax is based on the amount of storage on the device, at a rate of €3.28 ($4.3) per gigabyte. This would add an additional €180 ($235) to the price of a 60GB ipod.
Am I the only one who thinks this is insane? It’s time for these record companies to get with the program and stop charging ridiculous prices for their product instead of sponsoring bogus levies and …

neutron_p writes “When the LHC Computer Grid starts operating in 2007, it will be the most data-intensive physics instrument on the planet. Today eight major computing centers successfully completed a challenge to sustain a continuous data flow of 600 megabytes per second on average for 10 days from CERN in Geneva, Switzerland to seven sites in Europe and the US. The total amount of data transmitted during this challenge — 500 terabytes — would take about 250 years to download using a typical 512 kilobit per second household broadband …

“Tom’s Hardware is running an article on AMD’s chipmaking procedure, plants, and future. Check out the pictures of Fab 36, their new plant slated to open in 2006, which will put of the next generation of 65nm chips. From the article: ‘Currently, AMD’s devices in Dresden are still produced on 200 mm wafers; the new APM 3.0 using 300 mm wafers won’t be ramped up until Fab 36 opens. Production startup at the new facility is slated for the beginning of 2006, at which point the company …
