I’m about 2 weeks behind on my usual blogs… Anyway, if you don’t know LT Smash you should get to know him… Well, bookmark it and do it some other time, looks like he had a bad upgrade on his blog…
LT Smash, or Scott Koenig, was one of the original milbloggers. During the 2nd Gulf War Scott’s Navy Reserve unit was activated, Scott starting blogging through his tour mostly as a journal for his friends and family. He definitely gave me a good insight into what was going on over ...

LT Smash, or Scott Koenig, was one of the original milbloggers. During the 2nd Gulf War Scott’s Navy Reserve unit was activated, Scott starting blogging through his tour mostly as a journal for his friends and family. He definitely gave me a good insight into what was going on over there, and really left an impression on me.

After returning from Iraq, Citizen Smash (as he now refers to himself) has spent his time combating the forces of evil (code pink and various other moonbats) by staging counter-protests at military bases and hospitals usually in the San Diego area, among other things. I’d give you more detail but I don’t want to get anything wrong, and I can’t check his site to make sure I’m accurate. Anyway, Glen Reynolds interviewed him a few weeks ago:

Listen as Scott describes his part in the new milblogger book, The Blog of War: Front-Line Dispatches from Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, recounts his experience blogging from the war zone, and talks about his up-close encounters with antiwar protesters from Code Pink at Walter Reed Army Hospital. There’s even an audio excerpt of his somewhat Pattonesque bullhorn address to those protesters, which I’m sure they didn’t enjoy. But you may.

The podcast is up here. Check it out, he’s awesome. Man, I really wish his site was up…

That is all…

This is pretty cool stuff, I swear I’ve seen these images in a video game somewhere! hehe, looks like the game designers got it right. From a live journal blog, but it’s all in Russian. Submarine Base is Here, and the Fuel Storage Facility is here.
My Russian is a little rusty, but from what I can tell this base is located on the Black Sea (Balaklava inside Crimea I think) and was built between 1957 and 1961. The base also has an arsenal that once housed conventional as well as ...

The base also has an arsenal that once housed conventional as well as nuclear weapons (blast doors are 16 tons each) and acted as an atomic shelter for 3000 people for up to 30 days. The rock is up to 126 meters thick (~413 feet) at it’s thickest point. It was opened as a museum in 1995. During that time it has appeared to be looted for metal scrap several times, one site even mentions the flourescent bulbs being broken to get the mercury (didn’t know they had any mercury, but there you go).

BTW, just kidding about my Russian, I used the fish.
